How did I get such a character?

Maggie (my 3 year old) and I were in Wal-Mart perusing the canned veggies. There was a man across the aisle from us stocking the shelves, and Maggie was about to have a fit for me to say hello to this man. She loves people and loves to talk as long as it's her idea, but today her idea was for me to do the talking. I guess she had seen me be friendly to folks in stores before and wondered why I was leaving this man out. So, she began saying, "Mama, do it. Do it, Mama. Go ahead. Say it, Mama. Do it." RELENTLESS! Mind you if this guy could hear her, he wasn't looking up. A casual, natural 'hello' was out of the question. So we headed up the aisle, and to get her off my back and so she wouldn't think I was slighting this man for some reason, I, in my friendliest voice (and with no eye contact from this man), said, "Hi. How are you?" He replied a not as friendly, "Hey" while not even looking up. We continued walking up the aisle, and with that Maggie says, "Now was that so hard?"
